The Midterms Are Here

I’m looking at the state released numbers in North Carolina, which is expected to go Democrat, where more than 1.2 million early ballots have been accepted, a 37% increase from the same point leading up to the 2022 midterms.

That growth — which includes both in-person and mail-in ballots — has been driven by a 47% increase among registered Democrats and a 60 % increase in participation among unaffiliated voters. Early voting among Republicans is up only 2.6%.

This is my point. We are finding ourselves voting against something, not voting for something. People are a lot more energized and motivated to vote, when they vote for something they believe in, but what is there to vote for in the Republican Party?

The Republican Party is not providing a reason for people to vote for them, other than that the Democrats, are going to destroy the country if they take over, whatever that means to each particular voter. I believe that but that may not be enough for another voter.

The Democrats, on the other hand, are running on affordability, stopping the war with Iran, reversing everything Trump has done, taxing the wealthy and prosecuting Trump and MAGA. Real things their voting base desperately wants done, so they have the energy we see in early voting.

They are coming out of the woodwork and voting for what they want, while Republicans, are lethargic at best, and are being told by the GOP and Trump, to vote Republican for only one reason, to prevent the Democrats from taking over. That’s not voting for something, but voting against something. Not the same.

Trump’s message in 2024 was one of better things to come. A better economy. More money in your wallet. Lower fuel prices. Lower inflation. Low interest rates. Closing the border. Deporting illegals. No more wars. Prosecuting the perpetrators of the Russian collusion hoax and other delivered or unfulfilled promises.

Back in 2024, Trump and the Republicans gave people something to vote for. This time around, under the present economic situation and the war with Iran, he’s telling us to vote for him to prevent the Democrats from taking power back. That’s voting against something not voting for something.
